Published November 26, 2005, St. Petersburg Times Dear Editor:
John
Fitgibbons, Debra Lafave's attorney, has stated that his client is "too pretty" to serve jail time--a novelty of a defense
so ridiculous I pray that it is never uttered by a member of the bar in any open court. His further prouncements about the
overwhelming influence of her looks, that she is "attractive by every societal standard" (which, he reasons, subjected her
to more than her fair share of public scrutiny), only surprised me more: In this case, a headline-grabbing defense attorney
is actually more enamored of his client than he is of himself.

Subject: The Fearless Bush Admin.
note: This was published on September 14, 2002 (during the build-up to the Iraq invasion) in the Los Angeles Times
after former Dept. of Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge issued yet another vague warning about our nation's threat level.
Ridge insisted that fellow citizens go about living their everyday lives (lest the terrorists win, of course). Naturally,
V.P. Dick Cheney immediately went into hiding.
In a totally unrelated matter (if you are one who abides by logic), astronaut Buzz Aldrin finally became fed up with
a conspiracy theorist who denied that the moon landings ever occured. Buzz went 'old school' on the geek and popped
him one in the face.
How do the two disparate matters intersect? Read on...
Dear Editor:
The insistence by Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge and Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft that Americans
should defiantly go about their everyday lives in the face of the new terrorist threats seems ludicrous and hypocritical because
the same threats forced our fearless Vice President Dick Cheney to cancel his Sept. 11 appearances and go into hiding.
As Americans we should instead follow the example of a true hero, Buzz Aldrin: When confronted by an irrational zealot,
punch him in the nose and walk on (re: Sept. 10)
